Important results from Sunday

A look at some scores that could have an impact on future rankings:

ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE
Manchester United 3-0 Chelsea
Two goals from set pieces ruined the Blues, who nevery really threatened. Man U now sits just a point behind Chelsea for second with two games in hand, one of which comes on Wednesday. Liverpool is four points clear of Chelsea at the top, but pretty obviously Rafa Benitez's eyes are more on the Red Devils.

LA LIGA
Atletico Madrid 2-3 Athletic Bilbao
Atletico Madrid, 3-1 losers to Barcelona midweek in the first leg of their Copa del Rey tie, continued its poor form in the new year. The club, which is in the final 16 of the Champions League, now sits fifth in La Liga. Villareal, another team in the final 16 of the Champions League, also has 30 points but Atletico holds the goal differential lead. Atletico sits four points behind Valencia for the fourth and final Champions League 2009-'10 position.
The loss to Bilbao was particularly frustrating in that it came at home and against a side that is just 11th in the standings. Fernando Llorente, 23 of Spain, scored two goals - one off a deflection - for Bilbao.
Diego Floran of Uraguay scored a late goal for Atletico, but it wasn't enough.
